These files, which had belonged to Dr Noel Poynter (1906-1979) Librarian (1954-1964) and Director (1964-1973) of the Wellcome Institute, a founder member and president of the Academy, were found during clearing the Enfield Stores of the Wellcome Institute Library, and transferred to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre, May 1997

The International Academy of the History of Medicine was founded in 1962 by Dr Noel Poynter, who was the Director of the Wellcome Institute, 1964-1973.
