Plate VI from Priestley, Joseph: The history and present state of electricity, with original experiments, volume 2, London : C. Bathurst & T. Lowndes, 1775. The first machine is by an unknown designer and has a rack-and-pinion drive. The second is Read's electrical machine with a Lane's electrometer, particularly for medical electricity.
