    weeks, about feventy men and women were attacked with it. The firft fymptoms of the difeafe came on very fuddenly, and with great violence. The head particularly feemed to be afFedted, and excruciating pains in the back and legs, made the patient's fituation almoft unfupportable. In one cafe, the excruciating pain in the forehead remained, for feveral days, after the Fever had completely fubfided. In about half an hour after the exhibition of the medicine, the patient frequently had one or two gentle pukes j and brought up what liquids the ftomach contained, with of- ten a ropy vifcid matter ; and generally very foon after, the medicine caufed a determina- tion downwards, which always feemed to bring about great relief, by inducing large and extremely putrid bilious eva- cuations.
