Description

Two carved wooden statues of St Paul de Leon (492-570) who is said to have saved Brittany from a dragon by ordering it to throw itself into the sea. Invoked against storms and sea. The statues were purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1929 and 1934 respectively and accessioned in 1938 (accession numbers R421/1938 and R448/1938). They are not held by Wellcome Collection.
