Photograph of an Ashanti girl with a carved wooden doll with a flat, discoidal head called an Akuaba. The name is said to come from the story of Akua, a woman having difficulty conceiving a child. The photograph was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accessioned in 1937 (accession number PHO 10532). Related images: V0031118
