![N° 18,825 A.D.1904 Date of Application *31 st Aug., 1904 Complete Specification Left, 2nd May, 1905—Accepted, 8th June, 1905 [Communicated by the Farbenfabriken vormals Friedrich Bayer & Co., of Elberfeld in the Empire of Germany.] PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION. “ Improvements in the Manufacture and Production of a Pharmaceutical Compound.” 1, Henry Edward Newton of the Office for Patents 6 Breams Buildings, Chancery Lane, in the County of London, Patent Agent, do hereby declare the nature of this invention to be as follows :— My foreign correspondents discovered some time since that the meta-tolylsemi- 5 carbazide having the formula: CH3 } vNH-NH~C0NH2 possesses valuable therapeutic, especially antipyretic, properties, and that this new compound can be obtained e.g. by treating meta-tolylhydrazine (CH3—CcH4 - NH—NH2), or salts thereof, with derivatives of carbonic acid such as urea, 10 urethanes, cyanic acid, or the like by the employment of which the group— CO—NH2 can be introduced into the hydrazine molecule. My foreign correspondents have now found that the meta-tolylsemicarbazide of the above given formula can also be obtained on splitting off one molecule of halogen alkyl from the hitherto unknown salts of the imidoethers of the metatolyl- 15 hydrazine carboxylic acid having the formula: ^NII, H—halogen.
