Black and white photograph of a pair of short straight obstetrical forceps with leather covered blades, type designed by William Smellie (1697-1763), Scottish man-midwife, around 1746. The item was previously part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum but is not held by Wellcome Collection. The forceps are now held by the Science Museum (object number: A615833).
