The allocation of compound numbers is referred to in a (copy) letter (28 September, 1944) to Dr Wien at May & Baker Ltd: "TRC numbers 1-190 have been allocated to the substances prepared for tuberculostatic examination ... Up to and including Reports P.31 and Biol. 5 there have been 35 Petrow substances examined. It is proposed to regard these compounds as TRC Nos 191 to 225 inclusive. It is proposed to allocate TRC No. 226 to Raistrick's new anti-bacterial substance prepared from mould culture reference No. A.G.112, thus the new series of samples received require to be allocated numbers from 227 onwards."
