Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "An obscure comedy act 'The Madcaps', whose leader (centre of this photograph), presents a rather androgynous appearance, sent the catalogued copy of this card ahead from one engagement (possibly the Kingston Empire, as the postmark is Kingston on Thames) asking the baggage master at the Chatham Empire Theatre to "meet us [at the station] and oblige" at 3.11 pm the following Sunday. A snapshot of life on the road as a variety performer in 1920 . Some of the actors appear to be children."
This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
