Description

Photograph of two statues of St Eloi, also known as Eligius and Eloy (588-660) and St Guenole (also Winwaloe) (c.460-532) Abbot of Landévennec Abbey.

St Eloi is the patron saint of goldsmiths, metalworkers, veterinarians, farriers and others who work with horses. Invoked against ulcers and epidemics. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1935 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4748/1937) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.

St Guenole is invoked for fertility. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R2419/1937) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
