Project Summary:For the 50th anniversary of the renowned arts festival held every four to seven years in Bollington, the funded project will use dance, costume and art to depict 50 years of biomedical discoveries during the opening carnival parade. The carnival will be a window on the other biomedical science events planned, encouraging the 2000-strong audience to discover more. The history of biomedical sciences over the last 50 years will be explored through life-sized scarecrow scenes of scientific discoveries placed in gardens and public spaces forming a biomedical science walking trail. A downloadable podcast will guide the user around the trail, with mock interviews with scientists exploring the discovery and its impact on our lives. Scarecrow-building workshops offering creative and scientific input will be held for the public and schools in the weeks leading up to the festival, and during the festival a pop-up laboratory will engage the public with hands-on experiments and exhibits based on the biomedical science discoveries depicted by the scarecrows and in the carnival parade.
