Printed material relating chiefly to McCormick's voyage up the Wellington Channel in 1852 as part of the search for Sir John Franklin (1786-1847), published as Narrative of a Boat-Expedition up the Wellington Channel in the Year 1852 (London: Eyre and Spotteswoode, 1854), but also to other phases of his career and to other polar explorers.

Comprised of the following:

  • MS.8682/1-9: Evolving versions of McCormick's account of his voyage up the Wellington Channel in 1852, c.1854. Evolving versions of McCormick's account of his voyage up the Wellington Channel in 1852; printed proofs, most carrying holograph directions and corrections. 1: "Dr. McCormick's boat expedition up the Wellington Channel, 1852". Chapter XIV of a longer work, possibly the Parliamentary Blue Book describing the expeditions headed by Sir Edward Belcher (1799-1877), of which McCormick's journey formed a part, and Robert McClure (1807-1873). The section held here carries page numbers 187-194 and lacks the ending. N.d. (c.1854). 2: Dr. McCormick's boat expedition up the Wellington Channel, 1852. As item 1 but text complete and now a free-standing publication. 39 pp. N.d. (c. 1854). 3-6: Dr. McCormick's expedition up the Wellington Channel in the year 1852, commanding H.M. Boat "Forlorn Hope," in search of Sir John Franklin. Expanded versions of item 2, differing slightly from one another in pagination and placing of illustrations: items 3-5 have illustrations bound in, while item 6 has loose illustrations inserted.
