Project Summary:The purpose of the project is to research alternative artistic and social applications of the light emitting and communication properties of the bioluminescent bacteria Photobacterium Phosphoreum. The main subject of enquiry will address human perceptions of our relationship with bacteria, our interaction with them, and what we will learn about ourselves from viewing them differently. Building on existing platforms of support and knowledge, and using enquiry and experimentation that transcends the traditional boundaries of art and science, a body of photographic, film and interactive work will be produced which will have been dependant on human/bacterial engagement.
