Photograph of the first and last pages of a letter dated 3 May 1870 from Lister to a Mr Hilliard, probably a surgical instrument maker, thanking him for an instrument for evacuating abcesses but doubting its usefulness. It is one of a number of photographs accumulated by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum as part of its exhibition held in 1927 to celebrate the centenary of Lister, in conjunction with The Royal Society, The British Universities Hospitals and Medical and Surgical Colleges.
