Description

The men are performing a tableau entitled 'Highgate Hill' (according to inscription on verso), the majority in drag. This photograph was taken during a British concert party somewhere in the Middle East towards the end of World War I and is one in a series of seven photographs: Wellcome Library nos. 2043067i, 2043068i, 2043069i, 2043070i, 2043071i, 2043072i, 2043074i.

Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "A large group of performers are posed in front of a leafy landscape backdrop wearing a variety of costumes including plush ‘cat’ suits, and a Robin Hood. The drag costumes are those of ragged gypsy dancers. A uniformed private in uniform of unidentified regiment stand to right just in shot partially behind the backdrop."
