Letters by her to family, friends and to Dr Baker Fanny Shackleton was a prolific writer, and many of these are to Dr Baker. Some of the letters are written out on torn off scraps of magazines, which may indicate that The Retreat tried to ration her notepaper. Many of the letters were individually wrapped into very small newspaper parcels tied up with fine cotton. Some letters have enclosures, for example, a length of lace, religious tracts, a memory card, a Christmas card Patient no. 1476, in Retreat 1882 - 1946 (died). Age 24 on admission, Quaker, single, no occupation, from Bridgewater, Somerset. Delusional insanity. All 1885 - 1886, except 1 item 1893.
