    MED. r MINISTRY OF FOOD SUMMARY OF ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE GRANTING OF EXTRA RATIONS AND PRIORITY ALLOWANCES TO INVALIDS AND PERSONS ON SPECIAL DIETS. Not to be divulged to the public. FOR THE INFORMATION OF REGISTERED MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS ONLY. (N.B.—The separate Schedules of conditions qualifying for priority claims on liquid milk and on eggs, which were previously supplied to medical prac- titioners, are superseded by this document and should be destroyed.) The following are notes on the issue of medical certificates to invalids, sick persons and other special classes having priority claims on the supply of liquid milk and eggs, and to those who need additional allowances of rationed foods. Forms of medical certificates for use when certifying patients under sections A, B and C can be obtained by, or on behalf of, registered medical practitioners A.—ScHEDULE OF CONDITIONS QUALIFYING FOR PRIORITY CLAIMS ON LIQUID ere ES TE a A IS LER MILK. MILK.—Class I.—Invalids allowed a priority claim on the supply of liquid milk of 2 pints of milk aday. (2) Active tuberculosis of all types. (0) Silicosis or Asbestosis. (c) Affection of the mouth, throat or gullet or organic nervous dis- order causing interference with swallowing. (d) Gastric, duodenal or anastomotic ulcer. (e) illness characterised by high and prolonged fever. (f) Post-operative conditions after major operations on the stomach, duodenum or small intestine. (g) Cases of pleurisy, with or without effusion, in which there are reasonable grounds in the opinion of the Tuberculosis Officer for suspecting that the condition is tuberculous in nature. In such cases the medical certificate is only valid if signed by the Tuberculosis Officer. (4) Patients who are undergoing Radiotherapy, whether by means of X-ray or by means of radium for malignant disease or lymphadenoma or leukaemia and who suffer from reactions to the therapy as shown by difficulty in swallowing or digestive disturbances such as anorexia or vomiting. (2) Post-operative conditions after major operations other than those covered by I(/). MILK.—Class I1.—Invalids allowed a priority claim on the supply of liquid milk of r pint of milk a day. (a2) Active workers, including domestic workers, during an illness which temporarily incapacitates them for work. *(b) Sick children not attending school. , * A sick child not attending school who has been granted a priority allowance of 7 pints of milk a week may be granted a further 23 pints a week during convalescence on application at the local Food Office. No supporting medical certificate is required.
