About this work
Description
Medical compendium including treatises on wounds, fractures,
phlebotomy, and bandages. The texts in this manuscript cover key topics
for surgical students: wounds (pp. 1–68), osteology, fractures and
dislocations (69–119), phlebotomy (121–141), bandages (pp. 153–184),
anatomy (pp. 185–225), and cauterization(?) (pp. 227–242). Each text has
a short preface, often signed ‘vostre tres humble aspirant Malpory’ or
similar. These prefaces address ‘messieurs’—presumably Malpory’s
teachers or mentors—and refer to authorities both ancient (e.g.
Aristotle and Hippocrates) and modern (e.g. André du Laurens,
d.1609).
