21 autograph letters, signed, by South (nos. 6-7 and 12 are copies in South's own hand). The majority are to Thomas Madden Stone (d.1894), Librarian of the Royal College of Surgeons (nos. 1, 5, 8-11, 13-21; no. 2 is a testimonial to Stone); other correspondents include Edmund Belfour of the Royal College of Surgeons (nos. 3-4), "Mr. Hodgson", presumably Joseph Hodgson F.R.C.S. F.R.S. (1788-1869) (no. 12).
