The woman has a bunch of pansies in her buttonhole, possibly representing thoughts ("pensées" in French). The woman's coat and lips, the pansies and the man's tie and handkerchief have been hand-coloured.

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: A French greetings card, circa mid-1920s. A hand colored real photo montage. The photograph is heavily re-touched; as a result the male figure appears to be heavily made up, with plucked and arching eye-brows.
