Project Summary:The project is the development and production (including first run) of Captain Ko and the Planet of Rice, a new piece of contemporary theatre resulting from the interdisciplinary collaboration between theatre company Dancing Brick (and associate artists) and Professor Sergio Della Sala (University of Edinburgh). The play is an attempt to give the public - in an original, poetic and visual way - a more informed and nuanced understanding of the experience undergone by a sufferer of Alzheimer's Disease. More specifically, to use the metaphor of space travel to allow the audience to imaginatively sympathise with the feelings of disorientation, temporal confusion, apraxia and isolation undergone by sufferers of the condition, and understand how the neurological processes responsible for reconstructing the past are equally as active in imaginatively constructing the future. 'The 'Captain Ko' project is part of an extremely important movement, of art attempting to formulate in a pristine, accessible way the complexities of Alzheimer's Disease'
