Three wooden statues of Saint Anne (the Mother of Mary) the Virgin Mary (the Mother of Jesus Christ), and the baby Jesus. Two of the statues show all three figures who were invoked by women wishing for children. This form of representation appears to be particular to Brittany. The items were purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1928 and 1934 and accessioned in 1937 (accession numbers R4734/1937 and R4735/1937). The third statues is of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus Christ seen in the womb. Invoked by pregnant women and during childbirth. The item was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R461/1938). It is not held by Wellcome Collection.
