The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The musical-comedy and pantomime actress Dorothy Ward poses with two men. The exaggerated make-up, combined in this case with flowing silky clothes, gives one of her companions a most effeminate appearance. Dorothy Ward married the Irish comic actor Shaun Glenville (1884-1968?) and for many years they appeared together in pantomime, with him as dame and her in male drag as Principal Boy".
