Project Summary:SICK! 2014 is an ambitious, cross-art form festival that seeks out new ways of talking about physical, mental and social problems and well-being. Presenting a high-quality, international programme of performance, theatre, film, visual art and digital media, across many venues and public spaces, SICK! focuses on 4 themes: Growing Pains: Adolescence & identity Inside / Out: Mental illness & wellbeing in society Running Out Of Time: Ageing & dementia The End: Death & Euthanasia See Additio nal Information: SICK! 2014 Thematics SICK! 2014 Programme SICK! 2014 builds on the experience and support generated through a hugely successful Wellcome Trust-funded pilot event that took place in March 2013 and looks towards the further development of an annual festival taking place in Brighton and Manchester. The project incorporates the first full-scale festival and research towards the strategic development of the festival. The project will include: Presentation of a 3-week long Si ck Festival in Brighton, March 2014 Commissioning of five new artworks Research and development for annual festival to take place in Manchester, Brighton and other cities in the UK. The festival brings together art works that provide a profound insight into personal experience with the expertise of doctors, academics, healthcare providers, charity workers, and the people for whom these themes are urgent daily realities. The festival creates formats and opportunities specifically designed t o enable audiences to share and reflect upon their own experiences and perceptions, engaging with experts and non-experts from a wide range of perspectives.
