Description
Photograph by Herbert Vladimir Meyerowitz (1900-1945), British colonial administrator, of a traditional healer of the Ewe people of West Africa. He holds a broom and a diploma, symbolising his ability to overcome disease-bringing spirings and his healing abilities. The photograph was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum and accession in 1937 (accession number PHO 10548).
