About this work

Description

The angel flies above the colonnades, disturbing the waters. The man on the right holds a hand on his distended stomach. Other sick people including hunchbacks and men with slings gather around the pool. At foot, a vignette showing a sick man being brought on a stretcher to Saint Bartholomew's Hospital, London, where he is received by a friar with a rosary (representing the mediaeval origins of the hospital?)
