Description

Legal and financial documents pertaining to the early history of the Hodgkin family (eighteenth and nineteenth centuries) and to the the subsequent history of Hodgkin property in Warwickshire. Comprises the following:

  • PP/HO/A/B1: Foot of fine: sale of lands at various places in South Warwickshire to William Underhill and Richard Cleeve by John and Mary Hartford and William and Mary Cleeve, 1766.
  • PPHO/A/B2: Bond for repayment of £160 by William Zouche Prestidge, loaned by John Hodgkin of Shipston, with signatures for receipt of interest and part of principal, 1769-1780.
  • PP/HO/A/B3: Cash account for sale of utensils (incomplete); on verso, draft power of attorney on behalf of John Hodgkin of Pentonville and William Hobday, to be exercised by Thomas Sabin, John Wright and Edward Hartwell, 1769-1801.
  • PP/HO/A/B4: Tenancy agreement: Thomas Roberts leasing property in Todenham, Gloucestershire, from John Hodgkin, 1788
  • PP/HO/A/B5: Bill for legal fees incurred to R Prettle by Messrs. Hodgkin and Brown, 1780.
  • PP/HO/A/B6: Lease of house in Sheep Street, Shipston, to John Hodgkin by Gore Townsend, 1782.
  • PP/HO/A/B7: Licence issued by Stamp Office to John Hodgkin, to sell gloves, 1785.
  • PP/HO/A/B8: Wholesale prices of medicines sold by Dicey & Co., with receipt of sale of Daffy's elixir to John Hodgkin and son, 1785
  • PP/HO/A/B9: Price list of Smith, Kemble and Travers, with receipt of sales to John Hodgkin and son, 1785.
  • PP/HO/A/B10: Conveyance of property in Shipston from William Horniblow, surgeon, to Thomas Hodgkin of Ackworth, 1788.
  • PP/HO/A/B11: Account of transactions between John Hodgkin of Shipston and Thomas Hodgkin of Ackworth, 1790-1791.
  • PP/HO/A/B12: Conveyance of property in Shipston from Thomas Gilkes to John Hodgkin, 1793.
  • PP/HO/A/B13: Grant by Court Leet & Court Baron, Shipston and Blackwell, of reversion of property in Shipston to John Hodgkin of London and William Hobday of Ilmington, in trust for William Horniblow (receipt attached), 1793.
