About this work

Description

A painting by Normal Psychology Patient 1 "Clarice", one of a series of abstract patterns based on circles and squares.

The inscription on the verson states "That's a snail". Rita Simon noted it was a "Painting on a big scale. Putting the two circles joined by a bar O=O means putting perception with memory, in order to reorganise it. It's similarity and difference." This description comes from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

Referenced in The Symbolism of Style, page 40-41, fig 3.3d.

The title has been taken from the caption used in Rita Simon's publication.

Rita Simon's style classification: Archaic Massive.
