Description
Photograph of two statues of St Pourcain (also Portien or Porcianus) 6th century hermit, and St Ottilia of Alsace (c.662-c.720), also known as Odile and Odilia. St Pourcain is invoked against ailments of the eye and lameness. The statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1935 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R2418/1937) but is not held by Wellcome Collection. St Ottilia is the patron saint of good eyesight and invoked against diseases of the eye. The statue was purchased by the Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4785/1937) but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
