Description

Black and white photographic illustration of Cinchona succirubra growing in the cinchona plantation, Lembang, Java, in 1889. The original illustration was lent by Professor A. Tschirch (of the Pharmaceutical Institute of the University of Berne) for Malaria section of the international celebration and exhibition : three hundredth anniversary of the first recognized use of cinchona by Europeans, 1630-1930, an exhibition hosted by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1930. The photograph is listed as exhibit no. 453 in the souvenir catalogue. The item is not held by Wellcome Collection.
