Description

Photograph of an amulet in the form of a closely knit string bag with a carrying loop. According to the accession index card it would be carried by a traditionla healer and held up to the heavens to invoke spirits and protect against war and sickness. From the Yoruba people, Southern Nigeria. It was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1962 and given accession number A301733. Related images: M0019363EB
