About this work
Description
For a seminar delivered by Pontecorvo at the Laboratoire de Genetique Moleculaire, CNRF, Gif, on 19 Apr 1977. In the opening of his lecture Pontecorvo mentions that in 1955 Haldane wrote a popular article titled 'Some alternatives to sex' in which he "epitomised and advertised, among other approaches, the work that my colleagues and I had been doing at Glasgow University since 1952". So the phrase "alternatives to sex", which has always been associated with Haldane, actually originated with research work undertaken in Pontecorvo's laboratory in the early 1950s.
