Description

Three statues of Saint Anthony the hermit (c.468-c.520) also known as Anthony of Lerins invoked against plagues, epidemics, carbuncles and skin infections. The first was acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4762/1937). The second was purchased in Seville in 1917 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4762/1937) and the third was acquired by the Museum in 1930 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R440/1938). They are not held by Wellcome Collection.
