The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The composer, conductor and music critic Reynaldo Hahn (1874-1947). In 1895 he was the lover of Marcel Proust. He is shown seated at his composing desk in his study, holding a cigarette, with bookshelves and a grand piano behind. A trellis on the right wall holds paintings, drawings, and ivy".
