![N» 13,376 Date of Application, 15th June, 7903—Accepted, 16th July, 1903 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. Improvements relating to Sanitary Buckets or Pails and the like. I, Christopher Richard Ford, of “ Penhale ”, Kimberley Road, Lourentzville, near Johannesburg, Transvaal, Ironmonger, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement: — 5 This invention consists of improvements relating to sanitary buckets or pails, and it is designed to provide an efficient and cheap linng therefor, so that when it is emptied the pail is left in a clean and sanitary condition. By means of the present invention the expensive process or treatment to which the pails are now subjected in order to deodorize and disinfect them will 10 be obviated, and a more cleanly and sanitary means for emptying the bucket will be provided, and one which will materially reduce the cost of the sanitary service. The lining which will be removed and renewed each time the pail is emptied, is made or produced from paper or other suitable material and shaped to fit 1,5 the bucket or pail. The paper or other material is treated with oil and a disinfectant, or a mixture of the same, for the purpose of rendering it impervious to moisture and for disinfecting purposes. Any suitable cheap oil may be used for the purpose and any suitable disinfectant and deodorizer may be used to be mixed therewith. The oil and disinfectant may be applied to the paper 20 or other material during manufacture, and in any convenient manner, or other¬ wise. The invention is illustrated in the attached drawings wherein, Fig. 1 represents a vertical section of the bucket fitted with the lining, Fig. 2 an elevation of the lining detached, and 25 Fig. 3 a horizontal section on the line x—x Fig. 1. A represents the sanitary bucket or pail, which may be formed with the usual rib, flange or hoop, a forming a strengthening band round the top. The construction of the bucket or pail does not embody any feature of the present invention, and it may be of ordinary or other suitable size and shape. 30 B indicates the lining which may be made from paper or other suitable flexible material, such as linen-lined paper, or paper provided with a lining or backing of textile material of a suitable texture. The lining may be “ blocked ” to shape from pulp according to the shape of the pail or bucket in whicli it is intended to be placed, or it may be ‘ blocked ” 35 from a sheet of the paper or other material and in any convenient manner in order to produce a seamless lining. If preferred or found more convenient, the lining might be produced from sheets cut to the requisite shape and the edg-es be seamed or joined to impart to the lining the requisite shape. The material either before or after it has been shaped may be treated with 40 the oil and disinfectant to render it impervious to moisture and to deodorize and disinfect the contents of the pail. The lining may also be tarred, internally or externally or both, for the same purpose. [Price 8 d.']](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30737205_0001.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
