Description

Two carved wooden consultation figures from Southern Nigeria. On the left is a male figure with horns and a large pipe. On the right is a male figure holding a bowl standing back to back with a female figure holding an infant. The items were acquired by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in the early 1930s and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R5935/1936 and R5932/1936. The items were exhibited in the Museum's exhibition "Medicine of the Aboriginal Peoples in the British Commonwealth" held in 1952.
