Description

Three wooden statues of Judith holding the head of Holophernes, Saint Sebastian (c.256-288) tied to a tree, and Saint Peter, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. The statue of Judith was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1932 and given accession number A112430. St Sebastian is invoked against plague and epidemics. His statue was purchased by the Museum and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4810/1937). St Peter is invoked against hydrophobia, serpent bites, possession by the devil and fever, all of which are connected with miracles wrought by him. The statue was purchased by the Museum in 1928 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R425/1938). None of the statues are held by Wellcome Collection.
