About this work

Description

Two copies of autobiographical account by Ismond Rosen and his own relationship with the Covenants of the Old Testament, based on his journeys to Israel in 1980-1984.

In the introduction he states: 'The circumstances of the photographic journeys produced a series of experiences which became transumuted into a pilgrimage. I had set out to research and portray the covenants, instead, the covenants were exploring my identity and presenting changing pictures of my inner self against a background of history, geography and religious tradition of the Jewish people, in which I as a practising artist and psycho-analyst was expected to solely present the material...
...The task of the artist is to reveal or create mystery. The task of the scientist is to elucidate mystery and make it workable. In the following work I have tried to combine both...
...Although the subject matter of the book should be taken as a whole, the material falls neatly at times into separate vignettes or stories. As such it is compatible with the Hebrew traditions of writing known as the aggadah.'

Some of this writing was later incorporated into his integrated autobiography 'Along the Way'.

Spiral bound copy typescript, with some manuscript additions and some illustrations - photocopies of photographs of Israel landscape and people. Second copy contains some different annotations or corrections.
