About this work

Also known as

Previous title, replaced April 2022: Two actors, both in drag, pose in character as old women. Photographic postcard, 191-.

Description

Photograph of J. Brittain and Fred Powell in drag as old women sat at a small table smiling and raising their glasses.

Two older ladies having a drink and a gossip was a favourite comic drag routine from the 1900s, right up to the 1970s and 80s with the popularity on television of such performers as Les Dawson and Hinge and Bracket. In the 21st century David Walliams and Matt Lucas gave it a new slant in 'Little Britain' on BBC television.
