Improvements in the Treatment of Horses, Cattle, and like Animals, for Protecting them from Cold, Heat, Wet, and Changes of Weather generally. We Isaac Shimwell McDougall and James Thomas McDouoall both 20 of 10 Mark Lane in the City of London Manufacturing Chemists do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement:— Horses, cattle and like animals both fully grown and young are liable to be injuriously affected by cold, heat, wet, wind and changes of weather generally 25 especially when out at pasture or in yards or imperfect shelters and it is the object of this invention to provide means whereby such injurious effects are prevented or lessened. This we attain by applying to them either over the whole of their bodies or over part thereof a suitable oil or mixture of oils which we have found affords a very useful protection against excessive cold or heat, wind, rain and changes of 30 weather generally. Whilst not limiting ourselves to any oil or mixture of oils, except as hereinafter stated we may mention that we have obtained good results from the use of cotton seed oil alone as well as by the use of a mixture in equal proportions of palm oil, cocoa-nut oil, lard and cotton-seed oil. The oil or mixture of oils may be applied 35 in any convenient manner to the animals for example by sponging or by painting it over their coats and parts to be protected. Mineral oils we have found not to be suitable for the purposes of this invention. Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of this invention 40 and in what manner the same is to be performed we declare that what we claim is :— The treatment of horses, cattle and like animals for protecting them from cold, [Price 8d.]](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30739056_0001.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
