    S. Sf T. Kay's Improved Medicinal Compound. piperitae, or other essential oil or aromatic tincture. We combine the compound with an expectorant as ipecacuanha or antimonii tartras in approved doses. We call this when manufactured and dried “ chloro- linseed lozenge.” We further make an improved medicinal compound which contains 5 concentrated within it the fluid extract of senega, scilla, papaver, marrubium, chiretta, or other tonic bitter, and we add ipecacuanha or antimonii tartras, or both, in wine in the approved officinal proportions; we emulsify the clear liquor with linseed “ linum usitatissimum ” by decoction in steam jacketted pans or otherwise. The strained product is 10 then farther medicated with a distillate of pimpinella anisum, laurocerasus, tolinfera balsamum, storax benzoin, aether sulphuricus et chloricus, with sufficient mucilage aided by powerful agitators to produce a complete and homogeneous mixture, which contains the demulcent properties of linseed combined with the cordial, balsamic, soothing, 15 strengthening, and expectorating properties of the above medicines in a portable and convenient form. We call this “ Compound Essence of Linseed.” 3 We further make an improved aperient pill by taking of the dried herb linum catharticum (purging linseed) or mountain flax as it is 20 commonly called, and after boiling the same we inspissate the liquid until an extract is obtained of a plastic consistence. We mix this with other vegetable remedies rheum, aloes, myrrha, cardamomum minus, podophyllum peltatum, hyociamus, and gentiana in the form of extract, and we use the sapo Castiliensis wherewith to make a mass and to keep 25 soluble and active the various ingredients. We call this the linum catharticum ” or purging linseed pill.
