Description

Photograph of two carved African figures. On the left is a carved ivory amulet with a head at either end. On the right is a female figure carved in ivory from the Kasai district of the Belgian Congo (now the Democractic Republic of the Congo). The amulet was purchased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1924 and accessioned in 1936 (accession number R14659/1936). The ivory figure was purchased at auction by the Museum and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R584/1937). It was removed from the Museum's holdings in 1966.
