Description

Two light cornets of imitation tortoiseshell joined by a metal spring forming a headband. The introduction of this form of hearing instrument has been attributed to Napoleon's surgeon D. J. Larrey (1776-1842). The item was purhcased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1928 and given the object number A198343. It is now held by the Science Museum.
