About this work
Description
Two wooden statues of St Eloi, also known as Eligius and Eloy (588-660) patron saint of goldsmiths, metalworkers, veterinarians, farriers and others who work with horses. Invoked against ulcers and epidemics. One was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1928 and accessioned in 1937 (accession number R4746/1937). The other was purchased by the Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R456/1938). Neither is held by Wellcome Collection.
