About this work

Description

Correspondence between Francis Galton and Edward Galton Wheler-Galton regarding the measurement of animals.

Francis Galton to Edward Wheler, 20 October: Galton describes his idea that certain measurements be added to stud books for various animals, including cattle, dogs and horses. He asks whether Wheler can comment on his ideas, seek comments from livestock breeders and traders, and recommend an agricultural publication.

Edward Wheler to Francis Galton, 20 October: Wheler responds with a brief letter, informing Galton that the idea of such measurements is not new, quoting from [John Henry Walsh] Stonehenge's book The Dog in Health and Disease (London: Longman; 1872).

Edward Wheler to Francis Galton, 02 November: Wheler responds to Galton's questions in depth, recommending the Live Stock Journal, and that Galton seek the advice of William Housman.
