Eigendor 2 3 OCT. 1930 334,774 Improvements in and connected with Electro-therapeutic Body Belts. 1, John Hutcheson Ballantyne, B.Sc., C.E., of 248, West George Street, Glasgow, British Subject, do hereby declare the nature of this invention and 5 in what manner the same is to be per¬ formed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following state¬ ment :— My invention relates to improvements 10 in and connected with electro-therapeutic body belts, for the cure of rheumatism, lumbago, sciatica and other such ail¬ ments, According to this invention, the belt is 15 made up of two sheets of white felt or other suitable material to suit the curva¬ ture of the body and with a series of per¬ forations on each sheet to allow the heat from the body to reach the wire mesh or 20 metal plates hereinafter referred to. Between the two sheets of white felt or other material there is an insulation of wood-wool, fibre or such like, and in the space on each side of the insulation there 25 are two separate lengths of wire mesh or plates of different metals. The component parts of the belt are held together by stitching or otherwise. Eyelet holes are provided through which a tape is passed 30 by which the belt can be attached to the body of the wearer. By the use of this belt, electro- therapeutic effects are created under the effects of the wearers body causing a 35 warmth of the body and a stimulation of the blood circulation. The body belt is placed within an envelope or cover of linen or other suitable material. 40 In order that my invention may be properly understood and readily carried into effect. I have hereunto appended one sheet of drawings, of which Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating my 45 invention. Figure 2 is plan with one side removed. Figure 3 is a sectional diagrammatic view showing the component parts of the belt. 50 Referring to the drawings, A and B are the two sheets of white felt, or other suit¬ able material forming the belt between [Price 1/-] which is the insulation I of wood-pulp, fibre and such like, while C and 1) are the perforations on each of the felt or 55 other sheets. The perforations C and D admit the heat and moisture from the body of the wearer to the wire mesh or metal plates E and F of dissimilar metals in the space on one side of the insulation 60 I of wood-pulp fibre or such like, one acting as positive and the other as nega¬ tive, and in the space on the other side of the insulation I, there are the other two wire mesh or metal plates G and H of 65 similar metal to the wire mesh or metal plates E and F respective, one also acting as positive and the other as negative the insulation I, as will be observed, separat¬ ing the wire mesh or plates E and F and 70 those marked G and H respectively in the space on each side of the insulation I, the component parts of the whole belt being held together by stitching L or such like. J are eyelet holes for the tape K for 75 t.ieing round the waist of the wearer. The belt is reversible. The linen envelope or cover in which the belt is placed is not shown in the drawings. 80 Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said inven¬ tion and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is :•— 35 1. Body belts, characterized in forming same of two sheets of white felt, or other suitable material, to suit the curvature of the body and with a series of perfora¬ tions on each sheet, an insulation of wood- 90 wool, fibre or such like between said felt or other sheets, and with separate lengths of wire gauze or metal plates of different metals in the space on each side of said insulation, the whole being held together 95 by stitching or such like. 2. Body belts as in Claim 1, charac- terized in the provision of eyelet holes at each end of said belt, tapes passing through said eyelet holes for attachment 100 of the belt to the wearer, and with an envelope or cover in which the belt is placed. 3.
