  • RAMC/1387/1: Manuscript copies of letters, mainly to Alexander, 1856-1859; a few from Alexander; and a few dating back to 1830s and 1840s. Correspondents include Sir Thomas Longmore, Sir William Fergusson, Lord Ripon, Doctor R. Christison, and W.H. Russell. With photocopies of some of the letters, 1856-1859.
  • RAMC/1387/2: Copies of sketches by Alexander and manuscript copies of articles in newspapers and journals re the Herbert Commission to investigate the organisation of the Army Medical Department 1857; Alexander's promotion to be Director-General 1858; and his death 1860, and memorials, 1861, 1857-1861.
  • RAMC/1387/3: Precis of letters, 1857-1864, mainly from Florence Nightingale to Thomas Alexander, re arrangements for invalids and convalescents at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, 1857-1864.
