Description
Three wooden statues, one of St Francis of Assisi (c.1181-1226) Italian friar and preacher invoked against headaches and plague, one probably of St Francis of Assisi and one of St Luke, patron saint of physicians. The first statue was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1934 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R584/1938). The second was acquired by the Museum at an unknown point and the third was purchased by the Museum in 1929 and accessioned in 1938 (accession number R438/1938). None of the statues are held by Wellcome Collection.
