That they occupy a certain time in passi: from one place to another. III. That they an susceptible of acclimatation. IV. That they cha: their properties in passing from one stage to ai other. V. That humidity, but especially moii beat, are powerful conditions of their developmenni VI. That they go against the wind, traverse sei follow the track of civilization, avoiding a plao at one time, and visiting it at another, avoidin elevated spots and those surrounded by forests. VII That they are not contagions, but communicatwi VIII. That they are found in places aboundim in impure matter produced by perspiration, respin tion, and organic élimination of every description. These, and many other considérations, which hâve not the space to allude to, and which are ail i accordance with the idea of organized miasmata £ the primary cause of Choiera, hâve induced me t believe _that it is to this source that we must loo for the germ of the true principles of the prophylaxi or préventive treatment of Choiera. An important fact, in a practical point of vie is, that Choiera, in contradistinction to diseases whioj bave been assimilated to it, has an intensity which in proportion to the quantity and, perhaps, the qualit of the virus which produce it. This is not the caa with the virus of variola ; its quantity is unimportam
