Description

Photograph of two brass anklets or bracelets. The first is stirrup shaped and is from Africa, possibly West Africa. It was purchased at auction by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1933 and given accession number A160353. The second is decorated with a cowrie shell design and is thought to be from Nigeria or Benin. It was purchased at auction by the Museum in 1933 and given accession number A1600011. Neither item is held by Wellcome Collection. The first was transferred to the Fowler Musuem, University of California, Los Angeles in 1966.
